Decarbonization Stamp Rally by Train ~ Collecting digital stamps by taking eco-friendly train!～

Railway is an environment-friendly mass transit with low per-person CO2 emissions*1. Everyone can contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions by changing the means of travel from private vehicles to trains, i.e. modal shift, in urban areas.
To inform current and potential railway users of the environmental advantages of trains and encourage them to use eco-friendly trains more frequently when going out,　"Decarbonization Stamp Rally by Train" was implemented.
This is an experimental project supported by Osaka Prefecture's " Osaka Decarbonization Point＋″ program, that encourages people to change their behavior toward a decarbonized society.

Period: November 11, 2022 to January 31, 2023 (Approx. 2.5 months )
Content: Digital Stamp Rally using "WESTER," JR West's mobile lifestyle navigation app.
　　　　The participants were asked to watch a short video movie on the environmental advantages of railway and to collect digital stamps by going out by train. ICOCA points*2 were given when collecting five stamps as an incentive. 　
　
Examples of feedback comments found in a survey conducted among participants are as follows.
"Through the Stamp Rally, I learned that railway is an environmentally friendly travel mode. For the environment, I want to use railways more than ever before."
"Not only was there an incentive in the form of points, but the fact that I could contribute to the environment itself motivated me to participate in the Stamp Rally."

JR-West and Osaka Prefecture plan to hold a similar Stamp Rally in 2023. We will continue to encourage people to use railways more and more on an ongoing basis toward the realization of a decarbonized society.

*1 CO2 emissions per person and per kilometer are approximately one-fifth those of private vehicles
　　 (FY2020 results, from the website of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism).

　*2 Points can be earned by using electronic money at stations within the JR West ICOCA area and at some participating stores.
　　 (Points can be recharged to ICOCA and be used for taking trains and shopping.)
